Up until recently, online retailers had to charge and submit sales tax when a product was shipped to a state where the retailer had a physical presence or “nexus”. That is all about to change. In the landmark case South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc, the US Supreme Court decided to allow states to require sales tax for online purchases regardless if a seller has a presence there or not.
